Spring is here and we have had an increase in calls by concerned homeowners that pigeons may be nesting under their solar panels.
This can cause a problem, pigeons like to build nest under panels introducing sticks, twigs and other nesting materials which can cause a fire hazard. They also produce a lot of ‘guano’ or excrement with a high acid level. This can damage connecters and result in loss of generation.

So, what can be done? We would advise you have your panels checked and cleaned every year for signs of problems. If pigeons are deemed to be causing a problem, then fitting bird guard is a solution. There are several different options available, and we can advise on the most suitable. It will be necessary to set up access to check the system over for any issues, then clean out any debris from under the panels and then fit the bird guard.
Check your inverter and generation meter regularly for error messages or a reduction in generation. This could indicate you have a problem. Please get in touch if you have any further questions and require your system checking out.
